Transparency is important now that so much content is generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
This AI policy provides that transparency, so you can trust the words and images I publish.
I write my own web pages, blog posts and emails.
If I use AI while writing text or to create images, I say so.
I do occasionally involve AI as part of the process of creating social media.
Long form text: web pages, blogs, emails, etc
These words are mine, except for some automated notifications about your booking.
If I ask AI for assistance, I say so, and I always double check it for accuracy. See my blog post about photographing the Northern Lights for an example of how I’ve done this.
Short form text: social media posts
I sometimes asked AI for assistance with social media posts. I don’t do this very often because I end up re-writing it anyway.
Images
I do not plan to use AI generated images (except the one on this page).
If I do use an AI generated image, I will credit AI, just as I credit other image creators.
Some editing tools have automated PhotoShop-type functionality with AI features, for example, adding extra sky to make an image taller. I use these, but I never make substantial changes. For example, I do not airbrush out permanent features like the comms pylon next to the lighthouse, though I know other photographers do.
Chat
If you contact us, you’ll talk to me or Joy who manages the cottage, not an AI bot.
Third party content
I am not responsible for what other people write about the Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage, or for the images they publish. This includes:
editorials
some content on online travel agents and listing sites
social media posts about us
I am not responsible for third-party material that I re-post or re-tweet.
AI and energy use
AI is the opposite of green. Generative AI requires much more powerful servers and much more computer power than traditional search or good old brain-power, which is another reason for not using it.

About me
As you can see – I am human!
My given name shortens down to Ben which I admit is confusing.
I said “I” rather than “we” because I own and run the Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage and am responsible for the marketing, PR, blog, website, newsletters, and social media.
