Noss Head in the News

We’ve had all sorts of recognition over the years, and have loved collaborating with local groups like the Amateur Radio Society.

2025 – Chosen as a Prize!

We were thrilled to be chosen as a prize by Waterstones and Vantage books in a draw for their new publication, The Fisherman’s Gift!

Here is the write-up in the local paper.

2023 – Four Stars from Visit Scotland

We were delighted to be awarded the Scottish Tourist Board’s Four Stars for Self-Catering. The star rating shows we pay attention to all the details, and it tells us how much we’ve come on since our last assessment four years ago. And it looks great on display in the porch below our Gold Award for Green Tourism!

2023 – Chamber of Commerce

I am really chuffed that the Lighthouse Cottage team of me, Joy and Kim have been recognised by our local Chamber of Commerce for the work we’ve been doing on Green Tourism and spreading the word about Eco Travel.

Here is the announcement by the Caithness Chamber of Commerce: Member of the Week – the Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage

2023 – The Green Path Podcast

I am passionate about green tourism, reducing our visitors’ carbon footprint, and running a socially responsible business, and so I was delighted to talk about our green journey with Deborah Labi on the Green Path Podcast

2023 – Award: We won our Gold Award for Green Tourism!

I was beyond delighted to have our hard work on green tourism and eco-friendly cleaning recognised by a Gold Award for Green Tourism at the start of 2023. Being green is really important to me: I was raised by two women with the motto “waste not, want not” long before “reduce, reuse, recycle” was a thing. When I opened the cottage, I applied for a Green Tourism Award and achieved a Silver – this Gold Award is the next step!

2022 – Write-up: Stay In The Wild Scottish Highlands In This Dramatic Lighthouse

Every now and again I do a web search to see if anyone is saying anything about us, and I was surprised to find this the other day. If they’d got in touch I could have corrected a few errors (we do take pets, check in is after 4:00pm and check out is at noon), but, all in all, not a bad write-up!

2022 – News: Radio club aims high with mast set up at Noss Head for Lighthouses on the Air event

We don’t just welcome walkers and overnight guests, we love it when the radio club sets up masts each summer and links with radio stations at lighthouses all over the world.

2022 News: Wick man recalls his working life in army, lighthouse service and police force in fundraising book

David Fraser is a former Lighthouse Keeper here at Noss Head. If you meet him at Wick Heritage Centre, be sure to ask him to show you the lens that used to be here at Noss Head. He’s written a book recording his life in the army, as a lightkeeper and as a Scottish police officer, and it’s a great read – we obviously have a copy in the Cottage too.

2019 – Award: Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards Finalist 2019

I was immensely proud to reach the finals of the Highland and Island Tourism Awards after only one year of trading. It underlined our 5/5 reviews and was a real tribute to Joy who was first line of contact for our guests, and Kim and Tracy who kept the cottage sparkling clean.
